Sick Puppy

Not feeling very well at all...

8:30 a.m.
The puppy had a poopy accident last night. Some time during the night, she jumped off the bed onto the floor, eliminated and when she finished, she hopped back up on the bed and went back to sleep.

*sigh*

It was a large amount of poo, so I suspect she just couldn't hold it any longer - I was sleeping soundly last night, so it's possible that she tried to wake me up and I slept through it.

I have no choice but to take away her sleeping-on-the-bed privileges until I'm confident she can go through the night without a mistake like that.

For what it's worth, she obviously hasn't been feeling well at all and when I took her out this morning, she has VERY loose bowels. I suspect she ate something she shouldn't and I'll just have to wait for this to get through her system, but I *am* a bit worried about her.

10:00 p.m.
I spoke with the Cookie Lady regarding Dusty's bowel problems. She suggested that it's either something Dusty ate, or some kind of internal parasite. She suggested keeping Dusty off of food for 12 to 24 hours and if that problem cleared up, it's the former. If the loose bowel movements continue, it's probably an internal parasite and will warrant a visit to the vet.

So that's what we're doing. I'm using paper-thin slices of banana as treats. So far, Dusty doesn't seem all that hungry and she's still sleeping a lot. She'll be sleeping in her crate tonight.

The weather was absolutely stunning today. I took Dusty out to the front lawn and we sprawled on a blanket and soaked up the sunshine. I read. She chewed.

Then, I went off to do people-stuff (go running and run errands, ect). When I got back, there was a dog convention going on in the park - every dog in the neighbourhood was out. So we visited the park briefly.

Later on in the evening, after dark, I took Dusty out to the park one more time. It was beautiful - balmy warm and there was a nearly-full moon hanging over the eastern horizon. We sat on a bench and looked at the moon and watched the people going by. The temperature was around 17C.

By this time tomorrow, the temperature will drop to -1 and we will have ice pellets. Yuck.
