Where the sidewalk ends

Mine, mine, mine!

9:00 p.m.
Dusty and I had a 'moment' this morning.

It's 8:45 a.m. We're in the dog park, hanging out with the other small dogs. My attention is on a dancing Chihuahua. I'm trying to convince the Chihuahua to 'sit' using a piece of kibble as a bribe. Dusty is playing.

After the Chihuahua sits, I turn back to the conversation. The other dog owners are discussing the Havanese, who has been running out in the street lately. Apparently, the Havanese had pulled this stunt only moments before, but I was stunned when someone turned to me and said: "and Dusty followed her."

I took a moment to process this information and finally asked, "Are you saying that Dusty ran out into the street?!!" I'm thinking to myself, 'Geez, my dog ran into the street and no-one thought to alert me?'

She shook her head. "No, she followed, but stopped at the sidewalk."

I had to ask her again just to get it straight. Here it is: Dusty, in full pursuit of a flying Havanese, stopped dead at the sidewalk as the Havanese continued into the road. She did this as I was fully distracted with a dancing Chihuahua and gave her no direction whatsoever. She stopped at the sidewalk. The sidewalk, folks! Then she came back to me and sat at my feet. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My only regret is that I wasn't paying attention so I could reward this stunning behaviour with a *wheelbarrow* full of kibble. Talk about a jackpot! Holy Cow! She stopped at the sidewalk! I'm SO proud of my dog!
