10:00 p.m.
The ice storm continues. Yesterday, I was sure it couldn't get any worse, but I was so wrong. At the moment, we have about 5 centimetres of ice pellets on the ground. When they first accumulate, it feels like beach sand under your feet and the ice makes a hissing sound as it hits the ground. But it's starting to freeze, fusing together into a solid mass that covers the yard and the sidewalk and the park.
We didn't go out much. Dusty didn't even want to go potty and it took her hours to decide to poo (I guess it's hard to find that Perfect Spot when the whole world is covered in ice).
In the afternoon, we were so stir-crazy from being inside that I took Dusty out to the park. We walked around on-leash for awhile, then I took her into the fenced-in playground area (obviously, no children were out in weather like this). I didn't want to let her loose in the larger park because I was afraid she wouldn't be able to distinguish between park and street, since everything is very white.
We had fun. The snow pellets have, for the most part, fused together into a solid ice mass. I was climbing up to the top of these little hills and skiing down on my boots. Dusty found this hilarious and followed at my heels.
With nothing else to do, I started working on Dusty's paper scrapbook today, sorting through digital photographs and printing them out. This has been a project I've put off for a long time, so it feels good to get to it. I'll probably have lots of time to work on it too, since this weather isn't do to let up for about a week. Yuck.
