Rough Night

Spring in the park.

11:30 a.m.
We had a bit of a rough night. Lately, I've been allowing Dusty to go to sleep on the bed and then I put her in the crate when I get up in the night.

Last night, I put Dusty in her crate and a short time later, I heard her heaving. I quickly got out of bed and let her out. She threw up, then immediately reingested whatever had come out. It didn't even leave a residue on the carpet, which concerned me because in the dark I thought I saw something solid come out.

I put her back in the crate and waited for her to throw it up again, but nothing happened and she seemed fine. Eventually I tried to get some sleep, figuring that we would go to the vet first thing in the morning.

Shortly after my alarm went off, Dusty heaved again and this time I jumped out of bed and caught her. The solid mass was a hunk of poly-fill from a pillow I had caught Dusty diembowling the other day. I can't believe that she actually ate this! When I caught her 'killing' the pillow, I gave her a good scolding, but never imagined that she had swallowed some of the fill. Thanks goodness her system rejected it!!

I keep an eagle eye on my dog, but sometimes things can slip past I guess. Dusty seems fine this morning, though she's very sleepy and has been napping for a few hours. She ate her breakfast and is drinking water. I'll continue to monitor her behaviour.

She's been gradually losing her baby teeth over the past week or so. I first noticed as I was brushing her teeth the other day. I can see the new adult teeth coming in. This morning, I was examining her mouth and I caught a baby tooth dangling! I pulled it out and kept it for her scrapbook.

One more dog story for the day: This morning, Dusty experienced her very first rainstorm. It was pouring rain this morning when we headed out for our morning walk. Obviously, the walk was postponed but I tried to get Dusty to go potty.

She was not very happy about the rain! At first, she kept shaking and when that didn't work, she cried and shadowed me as I walked around the front yard, clearly wanting me to pick her up and deliver her from that misery. I was trying not to laugh at her, but she was so funny!

The sun has aleady come back and it's going to be a gorgeous, warm day. I plan to spend much of it outside since the weekend isn't supposed to be that great. We're going to go to High Park with Etsuko and Chinook this afternoon.
