Puppy's First Demo

Bundled up at the Toronto Peace Rally
(Thanks for the photo, Liz!)

10:00 a.m.
I've been really happy with Dusty's housetraining thus far, but last night gave me an additional reason to be grateful. She's been pretty good about letting me know if she needs to go out.

Around 9:00 p.m., she started telling me that she needed to go, even though we had just been out a mere 45 minutes before. She was insistent - in fact, when I asked her again "Do you really need to go out?" she answered with a sharp 'yip!'

So I took her out. Almost as soon as I put her down on the snow, she staggered forward and threw up.

I don't know why she was sick, but I'm so glad that she didn't get sick on the carpet. I told her she was a 'good girl' but didn't give her a treat (I was afraid it might upset her stomach further). I haven't been trying to teach her to barf outside, but somehow she's gotten this message. Amazing!

5:00 p.m.
It's taken me nearly two hours to thaw out enough to write this and Dusty is absolutely exhausted - she fast asleep.

We went down to the Toronto Peace Rally today. It was a huge demonstration! Even the subway was very crowded and Dusty got plenty of attention. My friend Liz met us there and we marched from Yonge and Dundas, down Avenue Road and snaked down to Metro Hall.

Initially it wasn't too cold and we were enjoying ourselves, but after two hours and a lot of standing around (albeit in the sun) in the square at Metro Hall, we were ready to find some warmth. We hung out inside for awhile, then said our good-byes.

Today, in the name of Peace and also in the name of getting-used-to-loud-noises-and-crowds, Dusty had her first taste of activism. I think it will be a lot more fun when it's warmer!
