Canada Day

Dusty and AC

11:30 p.m.
Happy Canada Day! Dusty and I had the most wonderful day! We slept in, then had a good breakfast. I took a blanket out onto the front lawn so I could read and Dusty could chew for awhile. We took a short nap. After I ran a few errands, we got ready for our fun afternoon.

We met up with my best friend AC, who is in town from Washington. She doesn't visit often, so it was a real treat to spend time with her. Dusty had never met AC before. She was initially cautious (responding with her full range of 'guard dog behaviour,' which didn't intimidate AC in the slightest), Dusty soon warmed up to her though.

We went on a long walk around High Park and showed AC our favourite walking paths in the woods. Dusty wasn't as energetic as ususal, probably because of the heat, but she got a good run going (especially once she spotted the Chipmunks). She slept in the car on the way home.

In the evening, Dusty had five hours of crate time while AC and I went to a barbeque. When I arrived home after 10 p.m., she seemed fine but started shaking as soon as I took her outside.

I was hoping for Dusty to go potty, but she was too frightened by the fireworks - she wouldn't even eat treats. She curled up on my lap and pressed her nose into my armpit (not a good place to be in the summer, but she was obviously desperate). Finally, I carried her inside. I need to do some more work to desensitize Dusty to Very Loud Noises.
