Waiting for a footbath after a visit to High Park.
5:30 p.m.
I didn't know that dogs could get insomnia. I think Dusty got way too much sleep and way too little exercise yesterday during out rainy day. At about 3 o'clock in the morning, she woke up and sat patiently on the bed. I figured that she needed to go out. So we went out.
After we came back in, Dusty didn't want to get back up on the bed. While I grumbled and dozed, she sat quietly on the floor - wide awake. Finally, she came to bed, but then sat and watched me sleep. Have you ever tried to sleep when someone is watching you intently? It's unnerving!
Finally, I asked her to *please* lay down and try to sleep. She did, but it was another hour or so before she finally dozed off. I'd blame it on the caffeine, but as far as I know my dog doesn't drink coffee. Of course, since she was up for half the night, I was able to sleep in this morning which is a *good* thing.
I took my wild-and-crazy puppy to High Park this afternoon and she ran around and had a great time. Dusty made some new friends and saw one of her favourite dogs. As the summer foliage continues to grow, Dusty has discovered a newfound love of tall grass - she can't get enough of it. She tore around in circles in the high grass for at least 20 minutes as we walked back to the subway. She's tired now, but in a good way.
One training note: Today for the very first time, Dusty tackled the Toronto Subway system on her own (without being picked up). She walked through turnstiles, up and down stairs, boarded and exited the subway trains, and was all together a very well-behaved and calm pup throughout it all. I was so proud of her!
The weather was absolutely gorgeous today, but the temperature was not seasonal - it was 15C (60F). There was also a wind gusting to 44kph (27mph), so a jacket was necessary.
I know I'm going to regret saying this (probably in July, when we're roasting), but I wish it would warm up!
