Chinook

Dave doesn't really like dogs, but I didn't find out
until *after* I handed Dusty to him.
What a good sport he is!

11:00 p.m.
Busy day for us. Dusty had her first 'playdate' with Chinook, my friend E's dog. And we went to PetSmart!

Chinook is an 8-month-old Miniature Australian Shepard, but a bit on the big side - particularly big to a Miniature Schnauzer puppy! I arrived in the early evening - Dusty had a good nap on the TTC (she's used to the train by now and sleeps on most rides).

I was interested in finding out how well Dusty listened to my commands in a high-distraction environment. I told her to sit. Dusty sniffed the floor and meanwhile Chinook (who had seen the treats I had on offer) eagerly sat. I asked for a 'down.' Dusty was disinterested, but Chinook demonstrated his best 'down.' Finally, I just gave Chinook all the treats, which I'm sure is what he had intended!

Dusty was wary at first, but eventually started playing and exploring the new environment. She sniffed, played with Chinook's toys and gave the cats a wide berth.

Chinook wanted to play! He made a graceful play-bow to Dusty and wiggled his bum enthusiastically. When Dusty didn't respond, he WOOFED loudly right in her face. Dusty didn't run at first - she stood her ground, but finally she couldn't take it anymore and made a running jump for my lap!

We drove over to PetSmart and spent about an hour there. Dusty met some nice adults and several children, who all got to hold her and give her treats.

All in all, a good day and my sleepy puppy slept *very* well last night!
