6:00 p.m.
Dusty had her first accident today and it was totally my fault. She was sniffing around and acting weird and I didn't act fast enough. Looks like the spot of choice is behind the chair in the corner (nice and private!).
Fortunately, it was a poo-accident and didn't leave a stain or anything. I still cleaned it up thoroughly with the odour remover though. Next time, I'll watch her more carefully when she's wandering around the apartment. Bad Jayme!
The crate training is going great. I went out to lunch today *and* went out to see a movie. Dusty was fine for both absences - she was glad to see me when I returned and had obviously been sleeping. I played with her for about a half-hour each time, to get her worn out and sleepy.
I was so relieved to get out of the house! I can't imagine what it's like for the mother of a human infant, being stuck inside pretty much 24-7. After five days of this, I'm stir-crazy! I definitely have a brand-new appreciation for new moms (and fully understand why my friend K went back to work after a few months). And at least I can put my 'baby' in a crate and go out on my own for a few hours!
Training continues to go well. Dusty totally gets 'sit-stay' now. She's an expert! We're learning 'down' right now (as in 'lay down') and it's a bit harder than sit. Also, she is beginning to jump up on stuff, so we worked on 'off' a bit.
