Outside of the box

Chasing the light...

10:30 p.m.
It was a busy, exciting day for Dusty. I took her to Superpet with me, to exchange her Muttluks (doggyboots). The 'xtra small' fit her perfectly. I don't know how, because they still really look too small to me, but they fit. And she likes them better too - doesn't try to pull them off, I guess because they fit more like a glove.

I've also started training Dusty to be outside of the crate when I'm away. From now on, for an every-increasing period every day, I'm going to leave her in the crate with the kong toy, but leave the door open. I think she's ready. She's never been a dog who destroys things and she rarely cries anymore when I'm away.

I tried it for about a half-hour today - left her while I went to the library. I thought I might have heard a little-cry as I got off the elevator, so I walked past the apartment and down the hall. Even from a few metres away, I could hear a frantic sniffing at the door, so I'm thinking she detected my scent. I may try leaving a tape recorder on to monitor her while I'm gone, just to see how noisy she is (wish I had a camcorder!)
