Dusty and I just got back from visiting with E and her new baby - a 9-week-old Belgian Shepard puppy named 'Cuan.' Yes, Chinook has a new brother! E picked up the puppy this morning from the airport - he flew in from Boston!
Cuan is cuter than I expected (I didn't think the Belgian Shepard puppies were all that cute when E showed me photos on the web). Impressively, this cute 'little' bundle of black fur is nearly as big as Dusty and will certainly surpass her in the coming weeks. He will be a BIG dog!
E figured that Dusty would be a good distraction for Chinook, so I brought her along. For the most part Dusty and Chinook played with each other, but she was fascinated by the new puppy. She tried to get the puppy to play using every trick in the book - little barks, play bows, spinning around and rushing him. He was cautious at first, but soon responded by humping her! (yeah, he's a precocious little guy...) I could see them sorting out their pecking order and Chinook was also getting into the game in a big way. It was a fun evening of observing Doggie-communication.
I imagine that E is going to have her hands full over the next few weeks. Seeing a new puppy is a good reminder of how far I've come with Dusty. This new little guy doesn't know how to communicate with humans at all. If he's chewing on something (er...like my digital camera, for example), saying 'off' doesn't do a lot of good. LOL
