Dusty slept in this morning after our late night.
7:30 p.m.
Since hydro came back on late last night, we've had power continuously throughout the day. Lucky us. Some of our friends haven't had power since four o'clock yesterday.
It's so odd to listen to the coverage on radio and T.V. and hear about all of the people who don't have power, while we're perfectly comfortable with our lights and fans running and drinking chilled water from the fridge. I've invited some of my powerless friends to come over and hang out, but so far no-one has taken me up on my offer.
Dusty and I slept in this morning, then had a very lazy day. The gallery was closed so we didn't have to go to work. It's still not clear whether the gallery will be open tomorrow or whether we'll be able to get there. The CNE was supposed to open today but the opening has been postponed until Monday (the first time there's been a delay of this kind since WWII).
I walked up to the grocery store in the morning, since the subway was still down (and will be until Monday). The Loblaws was open and had power, even though stores and apartments just down the street still didn't. Streetlights on Bathurst were not functional, but the streetcars were running. I shopped for my regular groceries, figuring that if there is another power outage it will be for hours rather than days (but I've given some thought to creating an emergency food and supply kit for the next time something like this happens).
The rest of the day, I read my book and took a nap. Dusty had a rollicking play session with her buddy Clancy, while Clancy's owner and I swapped stories. It's been fun talking to friends about their experiences of the blackout.
I've posted a scrapbook of photos, taken around rush hour yesterday - you can find them here. The real fun happened after dark, though, and there's no way to capture complete darkness in a photograph.
